When Host Tom Dutta Challenged Maria Malik to share her whole story, she wrote this message to him:
At 17, I was at my lowest. I was taken away from my home (Toronto, Canada) and sent to Pakistan to Marry a man I had never met before. Against all odds, against all family pressures, against all pressure from Pakistani society, I got divorced after a few years.
That was only the beginning. I had to reinvent myself. At this point, I still did not graduate from high school. So I graduated from high school and university; I am now completing my masters.
I became the first woman in my family to travel the world. I became the first woman in my family to get a job. And I am now the first woman in my family to start my own business. I help people overcome their fear of Public Speaking and use their voice!
Many women in Pakistani and other cultures go through very similar situations, but unfortunately, many never get out. It's heartbreaking.
With courage and luck on my side, I could beat all odds and live a life of my choosing. My parents have now become my biggest supporters, an even bigger win for me because of my family. means everything to me.
